Bush Sacrifices US Soldiers For Politics

Bush is sacrificing the lives of our soldiers in Iraq to save what remains of his political power.

The violence in Iraq is sectarian in nature. The people voted along sectarian lines, voting only for candidates of their own religious faith. The resulting government was lopsided to the majority religion. The promises of compromise and sharing of wealth and power was an illusion and the violence grew exponentially.

The future of Iraq is a political matter to be hammered out, one way or another, by the peoples indigenous to the region. The USA is participating in those dialogs presently underway and is slowly expressing interest in expanding dialogs to Iran and Syria. The world should hope a peaceful solution can be found.

The presence of US troops in Iraq is not resolving the differences between warring factions, but they die anyway. President Bush tells us our soldiers are there to protect democracy and fight terrorism. Yet the Maliki lead government itself is propped up by militias committing uncountable numbers of terrorist acts daily and democracy is largely a matter of armed force, not reason and compromise.

Yet despite these obvious facts we hear daily US forces must remain in Iraq. Why?
What are they solving? Is there continued presence there really worth dying for? The answer is plain. President Bush refuses to admit the invasion was a mistake and begin the troop withdrawal now because the domestic political backlash would be tremendous. The Bush Administration would face the blame they so richly deserve, would all but collapse, and the GOP leadership would follow soon after.
Therefore one is left to draw the only possible conclusion. American troops die in Iraq to support a president and his party.
