Mid-Term Election 2006
Six days to go. Polls and pundits say I should be optimistic, maybe even very optimistic, but I am not. Since the 2000 presidential campaign have we not learned over and over we face GOP and White House political machines willing to do absolutely anything to gain and hold power? These are people who happily go about the business of touting progress in Iraq as proof of their worthiness to hold high office while US soldiers are blown to smithereens. Has there been even one sign of integrity, even once? They use racial divisions, religious divisions, spend millions advertising lies, and, worst of all, they have their own people running elections at the state and county levels willing to do anything to guarantee their preferred election outcome. From the purging of eligible voter rolls, to tampering with touch screen voting systems, these criminals have proven to me and to others that they can and will steal elections. Based on these known factors my usual optimism is overtaken by a pessimism driven by experience.
My only prediction is any popping of champagne bottles by Democrats on election night will be a half-hearted. There will be wins, but big wins are awfully difficult when playing by the rules against criminals.
