Another Reason Lrobby99 Distrusts The Media

There is a popular sentiment among the Washington elite that what went wrong in the run-up to the war in Iraq has been sufficiently examined, and that it's all water under the bridge anyway.
It's popular in the White House and among Republicans for obvious reasons. But it's also remarkably popular among top Democrats and the establishment media, because they aren't all that eager to call any more attention to the fact that they were played for suckers.
There are, however, some people who believe that what led this country to launch a war of choice under false pretenses must be examined in detail -- over and over again if necessary -- until the appropriate lessons have been learned.
Otherwise, one might argue, history is doomed to repeat itself.
Enter history, stage right.
Once again, powerful neoconservative politicians who just know in their hearts that there is a terrible threat posed by a Middle Eastern country they have identified as part of the axis of evil are frustrated by the lack of conclusive evidence that would support a bellicose approach. So they are pressuring the nation's intelligence community to find facts that will support their argument.
This time, that scenario is being played out right in front of our eyes. Maybe that will make a difference?

Author Thomas Ricks also makes an interesting point concerning the Iraqi WMD scavenger hunt that should have made news but did not, and would have vindicated Clinton, but did not.

In 1998 Clinton authorized Operation Desert Fox. It was mainly a cruise missile attack aimed at suspected Iraqi WMD development sites on a very large scale. Something like 485 missiles, more than fired in Gulf One.

The whole thing was attacked by the Repugs and their sound machine as an impeachment diversion.

Well, following our invasion and interviews of a hundred scientists, engineers, and countless inspections, the truth came out, and according to David Kay, the 1998 strikes had devestated what truly was a nascent WMD development program. The strikes were completely effective and Saddam's scientists gave up on everything other than rocket motor developments.

But did this ever come out in the media? of course not.

Why The Dems Support Lieberman

Why is it, you may ask, so many well known Democrats cast their support to Lieberman and join forces with the Right Wingers in blaming shrill Left Wing bloggers for the rise of Ned Lamont's primary race challenge? Why do they meddle in an issue rightfully decided by Connecticut voters, and why do they have the incredible gall to support Lieberman even in the face of his disgusting decision to run as an Independent should the CT voters choose Lamont? Why do they support a man who will deliberately and spitefully sabotage Democrat Lamont's Senate bid should he win the Primary and hand the race to the Republican challenger?

The answer is a word. Establishment. The Dems supporting Lieberman are Establishment Democrats afraid that should one Establishment Democrat named Lieberman lose his Seat to an upstart, vocal, anti-Bush, fresh face fighting Democrat, that they too will face the peril of Primary challenges from the same types seeking to throw out the Establishment types with new blood promising to fight real fights against Bush, Movement Republicans, and the Right Wing itself.

Our Establishment Democrats have failed the foundations of the Democratic Party. Through their wimpishness they have turned into a group of Bush-Lites and have traded the ideals of FDR for the safety of corporate campaign contributions ala Liebermans huge pharmaceutical lobby campaign donations. In short, they refuse to fight the very Establishment that succors them. And they deserve to be thrown out.
